What Our Travelers Say

Real stories from real adventurers who trusted Annapurna Treks Nepal with their journey.

“The Annapurna Circuit was everything we dreamed of and more. Crossing Thorong La at sunrise — prayer flags snapping in the wind, the entire Annapurna range behind us — was the most powerful moment of our lives. Our guide Bishnu managed the acclimatization perfectly and kept us laughing through 16 days on the trail.”

“I did the Poon Hill trek as my first ever multi-day hike. The team made it so easy — all I had to carry was a small daypack. The sunrise from Poon Hill was unbelievable. I could see Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and dozens more peaks all turning gold. I am already planning the ABC trek for next year.”

“Upper Mustang felt like stepping into another world. The red canyons, the cave monasteries, the walled city of Lo Manthang — this is not the Nepal most tourists see. Annapurna Treks Nepal handled the complicated restricted area permit flawlessly. Our guide was from the Mustang region and his cultural knowledge transformed the experience.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Annapurna trek is best for beginners?
The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is the best choice for beginners — 5 days, maximum altitude of 3,210m, established trails, and comfortable teahouses. No previous trekking experience required. The Mardi Himal trek is a close second — same duration but slightly harder and less crowded. Annapurna Base Camp (10 days, 4,130m) is a good step up for fit beginners who want a longer challenge.
What is the best month to trek in the Annapurna region?
October and November are the best months — clear skies, stable weather, excellent mountain visibility, and comfortable temperatures. March and April are the second-best window, with warmer days and rhododendrons in bloom (spectacular on the Poon Hill and Mardi Himal trails). December through February is possible but cold, especially above 3,000m. June through August is monsoon — rainy trails and leeches at lower elevations.
How hard is Thorong La Pass on the Annapurna Circuit?
Thorong La (5,416m) is the highest point of the Annapurna Circuit and the most challenging day. You start at 4:00 AM from Thorong Phedi (4,525m) and climb 900m to the pass before descending 1,600m to Muktinath. The day is 8-10 hours of walking. The trail is not technically difficult — no climbing equipment needed — but the altitude and duration make it demanding. With proper acclimatization (mandatory rest day in Manang), most fit trekkers cross successfully.
Do I need a guide for Annapurna treks?
As of 2023, Nepal requires all trekkers to hire a licensed guide — solo trekking without a guide is no longer permitted in the Annapurna region. Beyond the legal requirement, a guide handles permits, books lodges, manages altitude safety, and enriches the cultural experience. All our treks include a certified local guide.
What permits do I need for Annapurna treks?
Most Annapurna treks require two permits: the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, NPR 3,000 for SAARC nationals, NPR 6,000 for others) and a TIMS card. Upper Mustang requires an additional restricted area permit of $500 for the first 10 days. All permits are included in our trek prices and we handle the paperwork.
